PERFORATION OF THE CERVICAL ESOPHAGUS WITH PERIESOPHAGEAL ABSCESS AND ABSCESS OF THE HYPOHARYNX DUE TO FOREIGH BODY AND BOUGINAGE

Abstract

|
A 65-year old Korean man was admitted on 9th of December, 1959 with complaints of dysphagia and painful swelling of left side of the anterior neck.
He felt that a chicken bone was arrested in his throat during his meal 10 days prior to admission and several efforts were tried in vain to pull down the bone by means of bouginage. He became worse and unable to swallow, and painful swelling of the neck was developed.
On admission, painful swelling on left side of the anterior neck and bulging. of the hypopharynx were observed.
He was treated by incision, drainage, nasal feeding and antibiotics. The abscess of the hypopharynx ruptured spontaneously.
On the 17th hospital day he discharged with much improved condition.
